A total of 12 basketball players have been selected to represent Scotland at this year's Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast.

The sport will be returning to the Commonwealth Games for the first time since Melbourne 2006.

Gareth Murray, who also represents Britain, is the only player in the 2018 squad who played at that event, making him the only Scot to have competed in the basketball event at two Commonwealth Games.

Team GB captain Kieron Achara, who competed at the 2012 Olympics in London, will make his Commonwealth Games debut in Gold Coast after missing the 2006 competition through injury.

"I am really excited to be part of Team Scotland for the first time, having missed out in 2006 due to injury," said Achara.

"I am really looking forward to being part of the squad for Gold Coast.

"It is a unique opportunity for us to represent Scotland and the whole team have been working hard to ensure that we are the best-prepared team on the Gold Coast this April.

"Having been part of Team GB at London 2012, I know how special multi-sport events are and being part of the wider Team Scotland will be a really enjoyable experience for the whole team."

There is also excitement surrounding 17-year-old Callan Low, who will become the youngest player to represent Scotland at a Games in basketball following his promotion from the under-18 team last season.

The rest of the 12-man team comprises of Jonathan Bunyan, Bantu Burroughs, Chris Cleary, Nick Collins, Alasdair Fraser, Kyle Jimenez, Fraser Malcolm, Sean Nealon-Lino and Michael Vigor.

Scotland are in Group B at Gold Coast 2018 and will play Cameroon, England and India.
