Ashgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan, is set to stage the 2025 World Sambo Championships after President Serdar Berdimuhamedov signed a resolution.

The event is due to be staged at the martial arts sports complex of the Olympic Village in November of that year.

According to the document, which has been reported by Turkmen media, the Organising Committee for the competition has been created and approved.

The Ministry of Sports and Youth Policy has been tasked with various responsibilities to hold the event, such as is coordinating with the International Sambo Federation to develop the regulations for the tournament and to organise training session for athletes due to compete in the event.

It will also work with the Ministry of Education to ensure the nation’s higher education students become volunteers to provide translation services for those travelling from overseas.

The World Sambo Championships was planned to be staged in Ashgabat in 2020 and 2022, but was unable to do so due to the COVID-19.

Kyrgyzstan replaced Turkmenistan as the hosts for the 2022 edition with the city of Bishkek now expected to hold the event.

Novi Sad in Serbia took over the hosting rights in 2020.

The 2021 World Sambo Championships was moved from Moscow in Russia to the Uzbekistan capital of Tashkent after a package of sanction imposed against the nation by the World Anti-Doping Agency.
