Vanessa Amorosi, whose song Absolutely Everybody became the unofficial anthem of the 2000 Olympics, wants to reprise her role when the Games return to Australia at Brisbane 2032, she has revealed.

The then 19-year-old performed at Opening Ceremony at Sydney 2000 where her performance Heroes Live Forever gained international acclaim.

"That’s one of the most special memories for me out of my whole career," Amorosi told The Brisbane Times.

"There was something about it, where I just felt everything made sense.

"My journey up until that point - I know I’d only just started but, you know, I had been singing and working as a singer from 12 and I felt like I’d been doing it for a really long time - and then when that happened and I got that moment to sing that song and take those chances - because those are some big risks to take on TV, with the key changes in the notes and just stepping up again into another key change – I look back at that and I’m really proud of that moment.

"For me, it’s the ultimate."

At the time in Sydney, Amorosi impressed the television audience of an estimated two billion for holding the final note for 20 seconds in one breath.

"I wasn’t nervous at all because I was young and dumb," she admitted.

“Like now, I would be double thinking some of those little things there.

“But back then as a kid, it was just like, ‘Yeah, I’m gonna sing, I do it all the time.’

"I could’ve stumbled on a note, it could’ve ended up a disaster.

"As years pass, you go whoa okay, now that you understand that moment so much more than when you’re a kid."

Amorosi was then invited back to take part in the Closing Ceremony where she sung Absolutely Everybody, which she had released the previous year but became a massive worldwide hit thanks to Sydney 2000.

It was impossible to visit any venue during those Olympics and not hear the song, including at Stadium Australia when it was played during Cathy Freeman’s lap of honour after her memorable victory in the 400 metres.

Armorosi was also invited to appear the 2000 Paralympic Games Opening Ceremony.

The Melbourne-based Amorosi has continued to enjoy a successful career, selling over two million records.

But she would love the opportunity to return to the Olympic stage at Brisbane 2032.

"That would be amazing," Amorosi told The Brisbane Times.

"I would do it."
