Kazakhstan picked up five gold medals at the World Sambo Cup in Kyrgyzstan with Arailym Abenova preventing neutral athletes from Russia claiming all of the women's titles.

She won the women's over-80-kilograms final after defeating Uzbek Khosiyat Masharipova 3-1 while neutrals Olesya Tkachenko and Albina Cholombitko, competing under the International Sambo Federation name, claimed bronze medals.

Another Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan decider was seen in the men's combat sambo under-58kg tournament at the Gazprom Arena in Cholpon-Ata.

Kazakh Ilzat Assiyev cruised to victory by a 4-0 scoreline against Egambergan Iskandarov despite conceding one penalty to his opponent's nil.

It took just two minutes and one second for Assiyev to take the win before his compatriot Assylbek Smailov prevailed against neutral Evgeny Bolotskikh.

The bout ended 0-0 but Smailov was awarded the win as he was judged to have been in the ascendency for the five-minute bout.

Kazakhstan's first gold medal came in the first day of action yesterday courtesy of Zhandos Beisenbayev.

He got the better of Uzbekistan's Sardor Olimjonov after just 24 seconds in the men's under-64kg sport sambo final.

Assylzhan Orynbassarova sealed another Kazakh title in the women's under-65kg combat sambo competition with a tense 3-2 win over home favourite Miraida Medetbek Kyzy.

Kazakhstan's five gold medals put them in second place overall behind the neutral team in first with 15 titles.
