Alia Atkinson will be Jamaica’s sole swimming representative at this year's Commonwealth Games in the Gold Coast.

According to SwimSwam, she will be one of two aquatics athletes for Jamaica, with Yona Knight-Wisdom set to compete in diving at the Games due to take place between April 4 and 15.

The 29-year-old Atkinson will hope to add to her two Commonwealth games medals she earned at Glasgow 2014.

Atkinson earned silver in the women’s 50 metres breaststroke in Scotland, before taking bronze in the longer 100m event.

The breaststroke star also has two long course World Championship medals to her name, having won a silver and bronze at Kazan in 2015.

Atkinson skipped last year’s World Championships in Budapest and Commonwealth Games will mark her return to an major international event for the first time since the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

The Jamaican did, however, take part in all eight events of the International Swimming Federation World Cup circuit last year, despite missing Budapest.

Having won each of the 50m and 100m breaststroke events, the two-time short course world champion will be a major medal hope for Jamaica at Gold Coast 2018.

It will be her fourth participation at the Commonwealth Games.

She made her debut at Melbourne in 2006 and then competed at Delhi 2010 and Glasgow 2014.

Knight-Wisdom will make his second appearance at the Commonwealth Games after becoming the first Jamaican to compete in diving at Glasgow 2014.

He ended fifth in the men’s one metre springboard competition and 11th in the 3m event.

Knight-Wisdom was born in Leeds in the United Kingdom and continues to live and train there with British divers Jack Laugher, Chris Mears, Rebecca Gallantree and Alicia Blagg.

He qualifies for Jamaica as his father was born there.

The 22-year-old then became the first diver to represent the country at the Olympic Games after finishing second in a FINA Diving World Cup qualifying event in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.

It saw him advance to the Games in the Brazilian city later that year, finishing in 14th place in the 3m springboard.

He was also the first male diver to represent a Caribbean country at the Olympic Games.

The Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games will take place from April 4 to 15.
