The country was named as host for the event last year and a key meeting was held with Majdouline Sherni, Tunisia's Sports Minister, to discuss preparations.

Sherni promised backing for the Championships and it was also agreed that the Tunisian Sambo Federation would be given full recognition.

Moncef Shalgaf, the director general for sport in Tunisia, was also present at the meeting alongside Dalil Scalli, the President of the African Sambo Confederation and the President of the Tunisian governing body, Makrem Saanuni.

"Following the results of the meeting, we were promised the support of hosting the African Championship," said Saanuni. 

"This means that we will have a good interaction with the police, we will meet with the choice of the venue.

"Safety and security will be organised in the hall and there will be opportunities for promoting the tournament.

"I would like to thank Dalil Scalli for support in organising this meeting. 

"It will help not only in the organisation of the upcoming Championships, but also it will be a new impetus for the development of sambo in Tunisia."

More details about the Championships are expected to be announced shortly.

Seychelles hosted this year's African Championships in May.
