Officials in Dubai are in "final discussions" with SportAccord Convention to host next year's event and hope a decision will be reached in the next two weeks, the Dubai Sports Council secretary general has revealed today.

Rotating the SportAccord Presidency between three year terms of representatives from the four consituent groups of International Federations is among proposals in new draft statutes of the organisation circulated to members this week.

Merging SportAccord with the SportAccord Convention will be the leading item on the agenda at the body's Extraordinary General Assembly in Lausanne next month, insidethegames has learned.

Dubai is among cities bidding for the 2016 SportAccord Convention, the organisation's managing director Nis Hatt has confirmed, with the event set to be at a lower scale than other recent editions with a maximum of 2,000 delegates attending.

International Triathlon Union (ITU) President Marisol Casado has claimed saving SportAccord Convention is vital as the search for a host of next year's edition continues. 

Francesco Ricci Bitti has been elected President of SportAccord Convention today following an Executive Committee meeting in Lausanne, it has been announced.

A "new entity" undertaking a narrower breadth of roles is being envisaged as a likely replacement to SportAccord, insidethegames has been told.
