Ayesha Jones set a Commonwealth Youth Games record of 52.49 metres in the women's javelin throw, leading an English one-two with Harriet Wheeler who notched 51.50m.

Anli Lo-Ann Engelbrecht of South Africa took bronze with a 50.12m effort.

Jones was not the only English athlete to set a Games record and lead a one-two for her team, with Stephanie Okoro dominating the women's 400 metres hurdles in 58.19, beating the previous best of Jamaica's Johnelle Thomas six years ago in the Bahamas.

Mia Walker finished second in the final in 1min 00.52sec, with South Africa's Tumi Ramokgopa taking bronze in 1:00.63.

Ethan Carey Glyde won the men's high jump for England with a 2.06 metres clearance, Trinidad and Tobago's Jaidi James in second and Sri Lanka's Nilupul Pehesara Thenuja Rathnaweera Patabendige in third both notching 2.00m.

Maddie Down provided another English gold in the women's T38 long jump, adding to her 100 metres success on Monday (August 7).

Down produced a 4.70 metres jump on her sixth and final attempt, bettering her second effort of 4.55m.

Two Australian athletes completed the top three with Niamh Mac Alasdair posting a 4.09m effort and Reese Prior a 3.73m.

In the remaining athletics finals, there were two golds for Jamaica including a Youth Games record for Shaquane Gehvon Gordon.

Gordon clocked 13.16sec in the 110 metres hurdles, narrowly beating England's Noah Hanson by 0.04.

Daneil Zidiane Anthony Wright of Jamaica earned bronze in 13.45, having earlier edged the men's 400m final.

He notched 51.51 to beat Sri Lanka's Ayomal Akalanka Kuda Liyanage by 0.10, with Oliver Parker of England placing third in 52.36.

Delta Amidzovski of Australia was the day's other winner, adding to her women's long jump victory on Monday with 400m success in 13.25.

England's Thea Brown took silver in 13.53, edging out Ramokgopa who clocked the same time.

Athletics and Para athletics is due to conclude tomorrow at Trinbago 2023 with an evening session featuring 11 medal events.
