Sydney 2000 triple jump champion Jonathan Edwards is among the latest inductees to the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) Hall of Fame.

The Durham University alum was joined by cycling and rowing Olympic medallist Rebecca Romero and Welsh rugby union player Alun Wyn Jones, who has five Six Nations Championship titles to his name.

Edwards, who started his career at the 1987 World University Games in Zagreb, won the world gold medal in Sweden in 1995 with a world record jump of 18.29 metres before proving himself at the Olympic Games.

"We are delighted to induct into our Hall of Fame; St Mary’s University alumni Rebecca Romero MBE, Swansea University alumni Alun Wyn Jones OBE, and Durham University alumni Jonathan Edwards CBE," a BUCS statement read.

Meanwhile, St Mary’s University alumni Romero was added for her exploits in two sports at the highest level.

She still remains the only British woman to compete in two sports at the Games and the second woman in history to win medals in two different sports at the Olympics.

Jones, who represented Swansea University from 2005 to 2009 went on to become the most capped rugby union player in the world and Welsh history.

Apart from the Six Nations Championship, the most capped Welsh captain has three Grand Slams and four Triple Crowns under his belt.

"Congratulations to our 2023 Hall of Fame inductees, who join the likes of Lauren Steadman MBE and David Florence, who were inducted just 12 months ago, as well as many more incredible sporting stars."
