British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) is set to host their yearly multi-sport Nationals in Sheffield, to celebrate 10 years since the event was last held there.

The event will occur from February 24 to 26, and will have four different sports, including swimming, badminton, climbing and athletics.

The 2023 BUCS Nationals will set a record for most competitors participating with 3,191 university students competing across all four sports.

"Nationals is a standout event in the BUCS domestic event calendar," said BUCS head of events Alice Robinson.

"For the past 10 years, this event has brought together student athletes, university staff and dedicated sporting volunteers and officials, to put on this national showcase of sport.

"We must thank the University of Sheffield, Sheffield Hallam, Sheffield City Council and Sheffield City Trust for their continued support of the event over the past 10 years.”

BUCS has had competitors who went on to become professional athletes.

Anna Hopkin, a swimmer who won the inaugural mixed 4x100 metres medley relay race at Tokyo 2020, is a former BUCS Sportswoman of the Year.

"BUCS allowed me to progress year on year, to the point where I took it more seriously and decided swimming would be my career," said Hopkin, who is five-time gold medal winner at the European Championships.

Jona Efoloko, a relay racer who won gold in the European Championships and the Commonwealth Games, was also a former BUCS athletics competitor.

"It was a great experience being part of the relay team, everyone was very supportive and we all had fun whilst coming away with a gold," said Efoloko.

The BUCS Nationals will have the climbing finals, long course swimming and indoor athletics broadcasted on BUCS TV, a newly created streaming platform.
