Teqball has been officially regarded as an item of distinctive value to Hungary, being given recognition by the Hungarikum Committee.

The Hungarikum Committee was formed in 2012 due to the Act on Hungarian National Values and Hungarian Cultures, which says its aim is the "conservation and protection of Hungarian national values".

This was partly an anti-European Union piece of legislation, with an aim to protect national products and foods from regulation.

István Nagy, the Minister of Agriculture, called the collection of Hungarikum a success story at a press conference, according to Hungarian publication Nepszava.

Teqball was one of two items introduced to the Hungarikum, along with the 200-year-old community holiday called Anna Ball in the resort town of Balatonfüred.

Six were added as national values too with these being salon sugar, tomatoes condensed from the Golden Pheasant in Hatvani, cut fat from Muravidék, the Hajdú flours and flours product line, Korhely fish soup and the Greek Catholic tradition of the Soldiers of Christ in Hajdúdorog.

Teqball was founded in Hungary by co-founders Gábor Borsányi, György Gattyán and Viktor Huszár, the co-founders of the International Teqball Federation.
