Malaga has been selected as the host of next year’s European Universities Beach Sports Championships.

Two sports are due to form the competition, with beach volleyball set to take place between September 19 and 24, and beach handball set to be staged from September 20 to 23.

A delegation from the European University Sports Association (EUSA) recently travelled to the Spanish city to assess the readiness of the Organising Committee and the available facilities.

The first day saw two technical delegates attend meetings where Antonio Domínguez Durán of the University of Malaga presented a medical plan before Pedro Muñoz, representing a youth organisation, outlined the volunteer programme.

EUSA delegates next visited the Municipality of Rincon de la Victoria to see where the beach volleyball is due to be held and met with Antonio Fernandez, a representative of the Mayor of Town Hall of Rincon de la Victoria.

An inspection of the venue site and accommodations were staged alongside discussing details of organising the beach volleyball event.

The group followed up by travelling to the Municipality of Torrox to see the location of the beach handball tournament, with members being welcomed by local Mayor Oscar Medina and sports councillor Jose Manuel Fernandez.

The same format followed with organisational issues being discussed along with facility and accommodation inspections.

Approximately 450 athletes, 50 delegates and an excess of 100 volunteers are anticipated to participate in the beach handball competition.

A meeting at the University of Malaga concluded the visit where communication, media, finances, and future activities were among the list of topics discussed.
