The European University Sports Association (EUSA) could hold Winter Championships for the first time as soon as next year.

Officials from the EUSA and CUS Venezia - a sports body which represents both the Ca' Foscari University of Venice and Iuav University - met in Slovenia's capital Ljubljana to discuss the idea.

An EUSA delegation previously visited this year's Alpine Skiing Italian National University Championships, which CUS Venezia and the Italian University Sport Federation (CUSI) stage annually.

A proposal to stage the inaugural European Universities Winter Championships in Val Zoldana this coming winter season has now been tabled.

CUS Venezia President Massimo Zanotto, vice-president Ivano Sambo, treasurer Franco Vianello Moro and Board member Dario Bianchini presented their pitch to the EUSA.

The EUSA says its Executive Committee will discuss the idea at its next meeting, due to be held in Istanbul on October 14 and 15.

Val Zoldana is in the Veneto region due to host much of the 2026 Winter Olympics and Paralympics.

Val Zoldana itself is not due to be an Olympic venue, however.

A year before north-east Italy stages the Winter Olympics and Paralympics, north-west Italy is due to stage the Winter World University Games.

Turin is due to be the centrepiece, with events also planned in Bardonecchia, Pinerolo and Pragelato.
