The Olympic Committee of Kosovo (OCK) has held its first International Sports Film Festival in the country's capital Pristina.

With 31 sports films shown over three days, the festival brought together films and documentaries from 14 other countries, as well as 12 local productions.

One of the standout pictures from the festival was the documentary Majlinda - The Heroine by Arben Berisha.

A documentary focusing on Olympic judo champion Majlinda Kelmendi, it opened the festival.

Kelmendi was the sole Kosovan medallist at the Rio 2016 Olympics, the first Games where Kosovo competed as a member state.

There she defeated Italy's Odette Giuffrida in the final of the women's under-52-kilogram category.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the President of the International Federation of Sports Cinema and Television (FICTS), Franco Ascani, was unable to attend and instead sent a video message.

The Closing Ceremony of the festival was attended by OCK President Besim Hasani and the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Vlora Dumoshi.

Hasani thanked the filmmakers and stated an intent to make the International Sports Film Festival a recurring event in future.

He also confirmed that seven local films will be competing in the sport movies and TV category at the Milan International FICTS Fest.

This is scheduled to be held from November 7 to 11 in Milan in Italy.
