The Athletes' Village for the Jakarta Palembang 2018 Asian Games has been turned into a hospital to deal with the coronavirus cases in Indonesia.

Four out of the 10 towers of the Athletes' Village have been turned into a medical facility, as reported by Reuters

It will house staff and more than 4,000 coronavirus patients.

During the Asian Games, which took place from August 18 to September 2, the Athletes' Village could accommodate 22,272 competitors.

Before the pandemic, the Indonesian Government had intended to sell the apartments to low-income families.

The remaining six blocks could also be converted into medical facilities if the coronavirus crisis worsens in Indonesia.

Indonesia currently has 514 confirmed cases of coronavirus, with 48 deaths.

Worldwide, more than 335,000 have been infected, with more than 14,000 dying.
