That means that tomorrow’s scheduled individual moguls events for ladies and men are due to held in the afternoon at the venue that has hosted this competition five times since 2012.

The 18-year-old Noe Roth of Switzerland is set to defend the men’s aerials title he won in Minsk last year.

Neither of the 2018 silver and bronze medallists, Dzmitry Mazurkevich of Belarus and China’s Jiaxu Sun, are in the field - but Roth, a Pyeongchang 2018 competitor, will be feeling confident enough anyway given his outstanding performance in February this year at the senior World Championships in Utah, where he won the silver medal.  

If Japan’s Kasara Sumiyashi is to defend the ladies moguls title she won last year she will need to overcome the 2018 silver and bronze medallists - team-mate Hinako Tomitaka and Russia’s Viktoriia Lazarenko, who also return.

In the absence of the Russian, winner of the two ladies’ aerials titles in 2017 and 2018, Liubov Nikitina, a new champion must emerge.

Not only will there be a new name atop the podium but a new nation, as there is no Russian representative in tomorrow’s final.

Belarus, who took this title in 2015 and 2016 through Aliaksandra Ramanouskaya, will fancy their chances as they have three entrants.

China’s silver medallist from last year’s event in Minsk, Qi Shao, is also absent, but four of her compatriots are in the field.

In the men’s moguls, France’s Thibaud Mouille, bronze medallist last time round, has the opportunity to take a step or two up the podium in the absence of the two Swedes who filled those spots in Minsk - champion Loke Nilsson and silver medallist Albin Holmgren.

 The ski cross and snowboard titles have already been decided at the Austrian venue of Reiteralm, while the snowboard parallel team event was due to conclude action at Rogla in Slovenia today.

Big air and slopestyle finals are set to start at Klaeppen, in Sweden, on Sunday (April 7). 

Action at Chiesa is due to conclude on Saturday (April 6) with dual moguls.
