A century by Manjot Kalra led India to an eight-wicket victory in the International Cricket Council Under-19 World Cup Final against Australia.

Australia won the toss and elected to bat at the Bay Oval in Tauranga, with both teams vying to win the event for the fourth time.

They had a mixed start to their innings, with openers Jack Edwards and Max Bryant being caught off the bowling of Ishan Porel for 28 and 14 runs respectively.

Despite the loss of their captain Jason Sangha for 13, Australia began to construct a solid score as Jonathan Merlo and Param Uppal impressed at the New Zealand ground.

Merlo would eventually top score for Australia with 76 runs from 102 balls, but the loss of his wicket to the bowling of Anukul Roy sparked a batting collapse.

Australia went from 183-4 to 216 all out.

They were handed a boost early when seeking to defend their target, as Will Sutherland bowled India's captain Prithvi Shaw for 29.

It marked the first time in the tournament that the batsman had failed to pass 40 runs, while Shubman Gill did not make a half-century for the first time, having been removed for 31 by Uppal.

Despite taking two key wickets Australia were unable to remove India's Kalra, with the opener making them pay.
