Gold Coast 2018 have unveiled their full arts and cultural entertainment programme for the Commonwealth Games.

Called Festival 2018, the programme is due to take throughout the 12-days of the multi-sport event from April 4 to 15.

Over 1,440 artists from 50 countries will be part of the Festival, which will include 1,000 arts and cultural experiences including music, theatre, circus, dance, ideas, visual arts and film.

Two main Festival sites will be established in Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach, the latter having two distinct activated spaces, Kurrawa Park and Surf Parade.

The two spaces will provide arts experiences and entertainment from 9am local time to late every day.

Amy Shark will be one of the local musicians to feature during the programme, with the internationally renowned artist set to be among the headliners on a stage dedicated to Queensland music talent.

Lastlings, Ella Fence and Eliza and The Delusionals are among the other local acts set to feature, while Yothu Yindi and The Treaty Project will play a Queensland exclusive performance.

Organisers have revealed that acclaimed artist Susheela Raman and Ghanaian hip hop star M.anifest will also perform on the Surfers Paradise main stage.

Several of Australia’s leading contemporary dance companies will be participating in the festivities, including Force Majeure, Dancenorth and the Gold Coast based The Farm.

International theatre makers, including the United Kingdom’s Punchdrunk and Jeremy Goldstein, from London Artists Projects, will also feature.

Overall, there will be 35 world and 15 Australian premieres, according to organisers.

In addition to the main performance sites, more then 28 places across Gold Cast will have interactive activities and live performances.

A food festival will also take place at the NightQuarter in Helensvale from midday to 9pm during the Games.

Cultural events will also take place alongside the food festival, which is planned to take place throughout the duration of the event.

Gold Coast 2018 have expressed their hope that Festival 2018 brings together diverse audiences and communities by sharing of culture from across the Commonwealth.

"Extraordinary performances, spectacular public art and exciting new commissions will make the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games one that Australians will never forget," Peter Beattie, the chairman of Gold Coast 2018, said. 

"Festival 2018 compliments the sports programme with a thrilling programme that is set to entertain and delight making your Games experience a memorable one.

"Festival 2018 Gold Coast celebrates the true spirit of the Commonwealth, bringing together more than 50 nations and territories to share creativity and culture.

"Festival 2018 Gold Coast will be a defining moment for our city and state."

The programme is being delivered by Gold Coast 2018 in collaboration with the Queensland Government and the City of Gold Coast.

Co-Creative Directors Kate Fell and Yaron Lifschitz, from the internationally-renowned Circa Contemporary Circus, have been in charge of curating the Festival.

They have been assisted by Louise Bezzina, artistic director of Bleach* Festival, who is delivering more than 20 new works for the programme.

"A festival is a chance to create a new world - one that builds on the values and aspirations of your existing world but also addresses its challenges, redresses its inequalities and extends its triumphs," Lifschitz said.

"We programmed Festival 2018 Gold Coast based on three themes: encounters in which we meet the world, change in which we effect positive change in the world and aspire in which we uplift and transform ourselves and those around us.

"We’re thrilled to now share with you our extensive program including 35 world premieres and 15 Australian premieres and invite you to dive into the world of Festival 2018."
