Anja Wicker claimed individual biathlon gold at the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Para-Nordic Skiing World Cup in Vuokatti, Finland, with exactly 60 days to go until her home World Championships.

The German, a silver medal winner at Sochi 2014, shot clean and skied superbly to clock 58min 21.2sec in the 12.5 kilometres sitting event.

Oksana Masters continued her strong start to the season with silver in 1:00:01.4.

Belarusian Lidziya Hrafeyeva was third in 1:01:20.0.

Ukrainian newcomer Taras Rad skied to his first career win in the men’s sitting event.

The 17-year-old did not miss a shot, taking the top spot on only his third World Cup appearance in 52:58.1.

There was further podium delight for Germany courtesy of Martin Fleig, in 54:33.8, and American Daniel Cnossen, in 58:10.9.

Sochi 2014 silver medallist Nils-Erik Ulset clocked a blistering 41:54.4 to claim Norwegian gold in the men’s standing event.

He shot clean to take victory over Canada’s Mark Arendz, in 45:53.3, and France's Benjamin Daviet, who clocked 46:21.50.

“For me it was the perfect race, I felt like I had good control from the start,” Ulset said. 

“After the first round of shooting I felt really confident and knew what I was going to do for the rest of the race. 

"It was one of the best races I have ever done.”

Ukraine’s Oleksandra Kononova won the women's standing event in 42:47.9.

The world champion led two of her team-mates onto the podium in Liudmyla Liashenko, who finished in 44:09.1, and Iuliia Batenkova, who clocked 46:44.20.

World Championships bronze medallist Iurii Utkin claimed a Ukrainian visually impaired win in 45:54.90. 

Belarus’ Vasili Shaptsiaboi sealed second in 47:05.5, while Utkin’s team-mate Anatolli Kovalevskyi completed the podium in 47:30.20.

There was more Ukrainian success in the corresponding women's event as Oksana Shyshkova led home compatriot Olga Prylutska in respective times of 42:37.20 and 45:11.90.

Germany's Clara Klug was third in 47:10.10.

Russian biathletes remain absent due to their suspension from the IPC.
