Jessica Mauboy 2April 2 - Australian musician and actress Jessica Mauboy will perform live at the special unveiling of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games logo this week.

The logo will be unveiled with a community celebration at Broadwater Parklands in Southport on Thursday (April 4), which marks exactly five years to go to the start of Gold Coast 2018.

Mauboy, who shot to stardom in 2006 after finishing as the runner-up in Australian Idol, has been a long-time supporter of Gold Coast 2018.

The 23-year-old from Darwin travelled to support the bid team at the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) General Assembly in St Kitts and Nevis in November 2011 when they held off sole rivals Hambantota of Sri Lanka by 43 votes to 27.

"The Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games will be the Gold Coast's and Australia's biggest sports event this decade," she said.

"It will place the Gold Coast on the international sports map and I can't wait for the Games to begin in five years' time.

"The Gold Coast community were united in their support for the bid and I'm looking forward to sharing their excitement and enthusiasm for the Games when I perform at the launch on April 4."

The Gold Coast community are invited to attend the outdoor public launch event from 6.30am with Mauboy set to be joined at Broadwater Parklands by high profile names that include Australia's reigning Olympic 100 metres hurdles champion Sally Pearson.

The logo itself has been designed to capture the essence of the city with Gold Coast 2018 chairman Nigel Chamier claiming that the emblem is a product of community research.

"Research was undertaken last year to unpack the deeper emotional factors which define the Gold Coast and the Commonwealth Games and explore the community's perceptions about the region and the Games," said Chamier.

"The research revealed there is great pride in the Gold Coast as a location, and the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games is an opportunity to showcase the city, our active lifestyle, and our friendly and welcoming nature to the world.

"It further revealed there is great excitement and awareness about the Commonwealth Games as an event, and there is vast knowledge about the wide range of sports on the competition schedule."
