Madrid 2020 face the press ahead of the host city voteSeptember 6 - Madrid 2020 used their final opportunity to speak ahead of their day of destiny in the race to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games by conveying their awareness of the battle ahead as well as optimism about their chances.

After yesterday's promotion of sporting ambassadors in basketball star Pau Gasol and boxer Sergio Martinez it was back to the specifics of the bid today just one day before the vote here at the 125th International Olympic Committee (IOC) session.

The vote will follow a 45 minute presentation from Madrid, as well as rivals Istanbul and Tokyo, and Madrid 2020 President Alejandro Blanco sees this last opportunity to influence wavering IOC members as imperative.

"Competing in sports and in life shows that everything is possible when President Rogge announces the winner tomorrow," he said.

"It is like a 100 metre or a 1500m race when you are going well but at the last moment anything can happen.

"Tokyo and Istanbul are two major cities with important bids that we respect.

"I always believed that the last presentation will be very important and we have to prove the beauty of our bid and show that it is line with what the Olympic Movement wants.

"In a nutshell our presentation will speak about the strengths of our bid and I am convinced that the IOC members will like it very much."

Alejandro Blanco and Ana Botella speaking one day ahead of the host city decisionAlejandro Blanco and Ana Botella oozed confidence when they spoke here one day ahead of the host city decision

Blanco spoke alongside representatives from three levels of Spanish Government, Madrid Mayor Ana Botella, Regional Government President Ignacio Gonzalez and Education, Culture and Sports Minister Jose Ignacio Wert.

It was claimed the three levels of Government will collectively finance the Games and - due to the fact that 80 per cent of the planned venues have already been completed, a sustainable "Madrid Model" will become a future precedent.

"We are putting forward a city with an affordable budget is good for the future as otherwise other cities would not bid in the future," said Blanco.

"The budget is very possible for all three administrations particularly as we are confident that the economic situation is improving."

"We believe that it is a new model that is innovative in the world we are in."

This was something reinforced by Botella, who described the bid "as an austere investment which will ensure a safe city and a fun Games which is also a celebration of sport and of life."

The final speaker present was Miguel Carballeda, President of the Spanish Paralympic Committee, and he explained how the bid and the city has taken into consideration the demands of Paralympians as well as their able-bodied counterparts.

He claimed the Paralympics is a very important part of the bidding "puzzle" and that Madrid is very knowledgeable about the Paralympic Movement as well as being an open city that very well understands the needs of disabled people.
