Women’s trap shooter Arianna Perilli will lead the host nation’s challenge when the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup gets underway in San Marino tomorrow.

Perilli won back-to-back European titles in the discipline in 2005 and 2006 and last year finished as the silver medallist at the inaugural European Games in Baku.

Her performances have raised hopes of the small nation of San Marino claiming their maiden Olympic medal at Rio 2016 and Perilli seeking to show medal winning form at the fifth leg of this year’s World Cup.

She will be joined by her sister Alessandra Perilli, also a trap shooter, who finished an agonising fourth after losing a three-way shootout for the Olympic silver and bronze medals at London 2012.

The pair are due to get competition underway at the Tiro a Volo San Marino Shooting Range tomorrow in front of their home crowd, with the women’s trap due to conclude in the evening.

The men’s trap competition are scheduled to take place on Saturday (June 4) and the double trap event then taking place on Monday (June 6) after a rest day.

The penultimate day of competition will see the women’s skeet event contested on June 9, before the World Cup conclude the following day with the men’s event.

A total of 381 shooters are due to take part in the latest World Cup, with 71 countries set to be represented.

The competition marks the second time that San Marino have staged a World Cup event, having previously done so in 2009.

Following the conclusion of the event, the season will then head to Azerbaijan’s capital city Baku for the final leg of the series.
