A four-strong shortlist for the SPORTEL StartUp Competition has been unveiled ahead of a ceremony at next week's conference in Monte Carlo.

Designed by sports digital media broadcasting company Deltatre in 2014 and jointly hosted on an annual basis with SPORTEL Monaco, the competition aims to bring forward global start-ups that can make significant breakthroughs in the industry.

Now in its second edition, it will reward new entrepreneurs who are changing the way people watch and operate sports.

The shortlist consists of two "sport enhancement" companies in German Vocational Rehabilitation (VC) firm Head Trip and French broadcasting innovaters Push-Pull TV, as well as Italian social gaming company Nextwin and Swiss crowdfunding firm Kichkrs.net.

“The professional sport marketing and media business environment is based on consolidated models and players, including Sport Federations and Leagues, Broadcasters, Marketing Agencies, Brands and Service Companies,” said Carlo De Marchis, chief product and marketing officer at Deltatre.

“Innovation often comes from thinking outside the box and this initiative can bring great inspiration to the sports industry.”

Judging is scheduled to take place on October 14, with the winner to be announced during the conference later that day.

The chosen company will then gain the opportunity to network with elite industry players.

Last year's event was won by GoalShouter, an Italian based company allowing fans to interact during football games, and whose co-founder Daniele Galiffa described the competition as "the way to go".

“In two days your start-up has access to ‘the right people’ of different companies in the same sector," he added.

"With an industry-innovative app or solution, you’re sure to attract some quality investors.”
