The five finalists for the Sports Book Competition, which will be held as part of the SPORTEL Awards on October 13 in Monte Carlo, have been announced.

Jim Henneman’s Baltimore Orioles: 60 years of Magic, which looks at the history of the American baseball team and Dictionnaire Amoureux du Rugby, written by Daniel Herrero, have both been nominated.

They will go up against Rusty Long’s The Finest Line, which talks about big-wave surfing, Jean Luc Gatellier’s Tour de France: The Golden Age 1940s-1970s and La Lutte, written by Lasse Burell.

A special mention was also given to Michael Theobold for his book F1 though it did not make the final shortlist.

The competition rewards the best sports books to be written over the year and each nominee has been chosen by the SPORTEL Sports Book Prize Committee.

The two laureate books will be chosen at the Ceremony, staged during the annual SPORTELMonaco convention at the Grimaldi Forum, by the Sports Book Prize Jury.

As well as the Sports Book Competition, the Golden Podium Competition, which displays the best sports videos of the year, will also be held as part of the SPORTEL Awards.

A host of top sporting names, as well as International Olympic Committee member Prince Albert of Monaco, are expected to be in attendance at the ceremony.

SPORTEL conventions are considered the most important for sports business people and allow for some of the industry’s most important figureheads to network and discuss business plans.

In 2014, SPORTELMonaco featured 2,613 participants representing 961 companies from 78 countries.

Back in August, SPORTEL revealed 99 per cent of the exhibition at their convention in Monte Carlo had sold out, with more than 1,200 participants already signed up for the event.
