The International School Sport Federation (ISF) President Laurent Petrynka expressed "his sincere thanks to the Brazilian authorities" as he declared the U15 Gymnasiade 2023 open.

Addressing all the dignitaries present here for the Opening Ceremony, including Brazilian Sports Minister Ana Moser and Brazilian School Sports Confederation (CBDE) members among others, Petrynka claimed that the event in the 2016 Olympic host city will be "the biggest ISF event so far".

"Once again, we are back in Brazil with the CBDE, in the incredible city of Rio de Janeiro, for one more big school sport event, the biggest ISF event so far The ISF Gymnasiade Rio de Janeiro," he said.

"I would like to highlight and express my sincere thanks to the Brazilian authorities for their full and continuous support in the organisation of this event for all the participants to experience this Gymnasiade in the best conditions.

"For this second edition a rich programme awaits you.

"Competitions, educational programmes and last but not least, the cultural discoveries and of course the fun part in the amazing fun and skill area.

"It will all be a success!"

The French official encouraged students to create "memorable and unique sports moments" and keep values such as "spirit of equality, respect and fair play" during the tournament and beyond.

The Opening Ceremony began with some fun activities for all delegations present at the Carioca Arena 01 in the Olympic Park.

It also saw a dance performance from youngsters, where cultures from the participating nations were showcased.

Soon, two representatives from each delegation started the parade of nations.

Peppy tunes and Mexican Waves followed before Moser took to the stage.

The 55-year-old, who won volleyball bronze at Atalanta 1996, welcomed the participating nations to the city before claiming that gender equality will be promoted during the U15 Gymnasiade 2023.

"We are proud to welcome athletes from all over the world," she said.

"We want this population to practice sport all life.

"We want to ensure that it helps them become better citizens.

"The Brazilian Government will make sure that gender equality is promoted throughout the event.

"We wish all students the best and hope you all give your best and also have fun.

"May it help you develop team spirit, friendship, and good memories."
