Azerbaijani team Neftchi became the first commercial side to win an International Basketball Federation (FIBA) 3x3 Women's Series event with victory against The Netherlands in Shusha.

While commercial sides dominate the men's FIBA 3x3 World Tour, the 3x3 Women's Series largely features national team representative sides.

The host city for the fourth stop of this year is in the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region.

It was captured by Armenian forces in 1992 during the First Nagorno-Karabakh War but retaken by Azerbaijani forces in November 2020 during the Second Nagorno-Karabakh War, with a ceasefire agreement signed shortly afterwards.

Neftchi proved too strong for The Netherlands in the final in Shusha, triumphing 20-12.

Brianna Fraser contributed seven points to help Neftchi to victory, while team-mate Arica Carter was awarded most valuable player of the tournament.

Neftchi had recorded a 20-11 win against Romania and 21-7 thrashing of Turkey before beating top seeds Germany 16-14 in overtime in Pool A.

They then edged Hungary 15-14 in the semi-finals.

Second seeds The Netherlands were ruthless in Pool B with a 15-9 victory against Japanese side G Flow.Exe, 20-14 win against Hungary and 21-9 hammering of Azerbaijan, before they triumphed 21-10 in their semi-final against Germany.

Baoding in China is set to host the next FIBA 3x3 Women's Series stop on Friday (June 16) and Saturday (June 17).
