The fourth edition of the 3x3 Basketball Women’s Series, due to start tomorrow in Wuhan, will not only be the biggest but will also offer the top professional teams prize money surpassing $1 million (£792,000/€908,000) for the first time.

There will also be new destinations on the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) circuit, which will encompass 23 events this season, breaking the previous record of 15 held in 2019.

"It is exciting to see a record number of events announced for this 2023 season and more than double the prize money, just one year before the Olympic Games in Paris 2024," FIBA secretary general Andreas Zagklis said.

"This demonstrates FIBA's commitment to one of its key strategic priorities Women in Basketball, and the importance of ensuring our major women's competitions continue to grow and gain maximum impact."

Tomorrow’s Wuhan staging mark the first time a Women’s Series event has been played in China since its first edition in 2019.

The Series is due to conclude with the Ulaanbaatar Final in Mongolia on September 16 and 17.

Canada will enter this season as defending champions having taken the crown at last year's Constanta Final.

Created in 2019, the FIBA 3x3 Women’s Series is the number one event on the 3x3 women's professional circuit.

Exciting, urban and innovative, 3x3 is inspired by several forms of streetball played worldwide.

Steered by FIBA, games see two teams of three players face off on a basketball half-court.

The discipline made its Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020 when the United States won the women's gold medal, beating the Russian Olympic Committee 18-15 in the final.

China took the bronze medal after beating France 16-14 in a playoff.
