Olympic boxing champion Patrizio Oliva has kicked off the campaign for the recruitment of volunteers for the Naples 2019 Summer Universiade.

The campaign was launched at Mostra d’Oltremare in Naples by the Moscow 1980 gold medallist.

The 60-year-old, who was born in the Italian city, spoke to an audience of potential volunteers about the region and the opportunities the Universiade could give.

"It is a unique opportunity for young people to put their knowledge into practice in various sectors, from marketing to hospitality," he said.

"In life, as in sport, the one with the best technical competencies does not always win, but the one who knows how to apply it in the best way usually does."

Oliva also revealed his daughter had applied to volunteer.

Volunteers must be of Italian or European citizenship, be 18 years old by April 1, 2019 and be available to attend training.

“Being a Universiade volunteer is an experience that enriches your CV and these benefits will unfold over time," said Napoli 2019 general coordinator Adam Sotiaridis.

The event will take place from July 3 to 14.

Naples has had limited time to prepare, having been confirmed as hosts in May 2016 following a reopened bidding process after Brasilia withdrew in January 2015.
