Wales’ Laura Daniels made an impressive start to the World Bowls Singles Champion of Champions in Sydney by topping the section two standings in Sydney.

Daniels, the women’s singles gold medallist at the 2015 World Indoor Championships, began the day by securing an impressive win over Emma Firyana Saroji.

Her Malaysian opponent triumphed at the event back in 2015, but she had no answer as Daniels emerged as a 10-7, 10-4 winner at the St Johns Park Bowling Club.

The Welsh bowler then claimed victories over Zambia’s Eddah Mpezeni and the Norfolk Islands’ Petal Jones to top section two.

Daniels boast a total of nine points and 34 shots to her name, with The Netherlands’ Guurtje Copier second on nine points and 15 shots.

The first section is led by Hong Kong’s Dorothy Yu, who finished the day with a total of nine points and 27 shots.

It followed Yu claiming victories in all three of her matches on the opening day.

The annual World Bowls Singles Champion of Champions was first held in Australian town Moama.

This year’s edition is the 15th in history.

Australia's Scott Thulborn and Natasha Scott were the winners of last year's respective men's and women's events in Brisbane.
