Former winners Thomas Greechan and Emma Firyana Saroji headline a top field of 53 contenders from 32 countries set to compete at the World Bowls Singles Champion of Champions in Sydney.

The week-long event, scheduled to begin tomorrow, will take place at the St Johns Park Bowling Club.

Jersey’s Greechan, the 2011 champion in Hong Kong, is one of 29 competitors vying for the men’s title.

He has been drawn into section two along with the likes of Turkey’s Ozkan Akar, Norfolk Island’s Phil Jones, Ireland’s Barry Kane, South Africa’s Kyriacos Kyriacou and Cyprus’ Bob Manson.

Young Malaysian superstar Saroji, the 2015 champion in Brisbane, has been drawn into section two of the 24-competitor women’s event.

Arguably the most high-profile name in the same section is Wales’ Laura Daniels, the women’s singles gold medallist at the 2015 World Indoor Championships in Great Yarmouth.

Australia’s Carla Krizanic, part of her country’s women’s triples and fours teams that triumphed at last year’s World Outdoor Championships in Christchurch in New Zealand, is in section one.

Qualifying rounds are due be conducted continuously over the first five days of competition.

The semi-finals are scheduled to be held on Saturday (November 4) and will be followed by the finals on Sunday (November 5).

The annual World Bowls Singles Champion of Champions was first held in Australian town Moama.

This year’s edition will be the 15th in history.
