Kento Momota won the all-Japanese men's singles final at the Badminton World Federation Dutch Open in Almere today.

The unseeded player defeated compatriot Yu Igarashi in straight sets at the Topsportcentrum.

Momota, the 2015 World Championships bronze medallist, secured the title with a 21-10, 21-12 victory.

Igarashi had upset favourite Tzu Wei Wang of Chinese Taipei to reach the final but the 13th seed was no match for his fellow countryman.

Beiwen Zhang of the United States took the women's title.

The tournament's top seed has been in imperious form all week and comfortably beat Canada's Michelle Li 21-16, 21-14 to take gold.

England's Marcus Ellis, the Rio 2016 men's doubles bronze medallist, combined with Lauren Smith to win the mixed doubles title today.

They silenced the home crowed by beating Dutch duo Jacco Arends and Selena Piek 21-17, 21-18.

The top seeds in the women's doubles were beaten in an all-Indonesian final.

Della Destiara Haris and Rizki Amelia Pradipta upset favourites Anggia Shitta Awanda and Ni Ketut Mahadewi Istarani 21-17, 21-16.

There was also an upset in the men's doubles.

Chinese Taipei's Liao Min Chun and Cheng Heng Su defeated Japanese second seeds Takuto Inoue and Yuki Kaneko 24-22, 21-18.
