Top seed Tzu Wei Wang of Chinese Taipei is through to the quarter-finals at the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Dutch Open in Almere.

Wang, a double gold medallist at the recent Summer Universiade in his home country, made light work of home favourite Erik Meijs at the Topsportcentrum.

He silenced the home crowd by claiming a 21-15, 21-19 victory.

Denmark's Hans-Kristian Vittinghus, seeded third in Almere, also made it through to the last eight.

He saw off Scotland's Kieran Merrilees 21-9, 16-21, 21-14.

Another Dane, Emil Holst, is also safely through after he beat India's 15th seed Subhankar Dey 14-21, 22-20, 21-11.

There was some delight for the hosts when The Netherlands' Mark Caljouw came from a set down to reach the last eight.

He fell behind to Japan's Riichi Takeshita but recovered to win 19-21, 21-17, 21-14.

In the women's competition, top seed Beiwen Zhang of the United States is into the last eight.

She saw off India's Gadde Ruthvika Shivani 21-11, 21-13.

Awaiting Zhang in the quarter-finals will be Japan's Haruko Suzuki, who came from behind to win 15-21, 21-14, 21-13 against France's Delphine Lansac.

Denmark's second seed Mette Poulsen is also safely through.

She defeated Gayle Mahulette of The Netherlands 21-18, 21-16.
