Japan's Yu Igarashi upset favourite Tzu Wei Wang to reach the men's singles final of the Badminton World Federation Dutch Open in Almere today.

Chinese Taipei's Wang, a double gold medallist at the recent Summer Universiade in his home country, was the favourite for success this week and claimed the opening set in the semi-final 21-17 at the Topsportcentrum.

Igarashi, winner of two tournaments so far this year, produced a sensational comeback to win the second and third sets 21-14, 21-17.

Awaiting the Japanese player in the final will be compatriot Kento Momota.

He managed to navigate his way through a potentially awkward tie against home favourite Mark Caljouw.

Momota silenced the home crowd by winning the first set 21-16 before going on to win the second with ease 21-6.

She is now due to face Canada's Michelle Li for the title.
