The 2024 European Rowing Championships have attracted entries from 30 European nations, with 476 rowers competing for the title of European Rowing Champion.

Launched in 1893, the European Rowing Championships is one of the longest-running annual sporting events on the international calendar. After a 34-year hiatus, it was reintroduced in 2007 and will be part of the multi-sport European Championships in 2018 and 2022. The event is open to the 46 European national rowing federations, including Israel.

At last year's European Rowing Championships in Bled, Slovenia, Great Britain topped the medals table ahead of Romania and the Netherlands. The largest number of entries, 19, is in the men's single sculls. Reigning Olympic champion Stefanos Ntouskos of Greece will face Germany's Oliver Zeidler, who won the 2024 World Rowing Cup I in Varese, Italy last weekend.

In the absence of reigning world and European champion Karolien Florijn, the women's single sculls title looks to be up for grabs. Germany's Alex Foester won silver at World Cup I and has the strongest pedigree in the field, but Bulgaria's Desislava Angelova, Lithuania's Viktorija Senkute and Serbia's Jovana Arsic have all qualified for the Olympics and could challenge the German for victory.

Szeged will also host the World Rowing European Olympic and Paralympic Qualification Regatta (EOPQR) as a separate event. 51 athletes will try to qualify for the Olympic and Paralympic Games in four Olympic boat classes (the men's and women's Single Sculls and Lightweight Double Sculls) and two Paralympic boat classes (the PR1 Men's and Women’s Single Sculls). 

Unfortunately, the PR3 Mixed Double Sculls event cannot take place as only one boat has been entered. The quota place will be redistributed using the Bipartite Commission Invitation method, and therefore no boat will qualify in the PR3 Mixed Double Sculls in this qualifying regatta.

Racing will start on Thursday 25th April at 08.30 CET with the EOPQR events and continue with the European Championship heats from 09.45 CET. The semi-finals and finals will take place on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 April. The A Finals of the 2024 Rowing European Championships on Saturday and Sunday will be streamed live on www.worldrowing.com.
