Indonesia's National Olympic Committee (NOC) is continuing to work with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as part of the country's bid to host the Olympic Games, possibly in 2036. "We are continuing our efforts to make Indonesia a future Olympic host, probably in 2036," Raja Sapta Oktohari said, as quoted by Antara news agency.

In July, a delegation with observer status will visit the Paris 2024 Games and observe Los Angeles 2028 preparations as part of the IOC's dialogue on the bidding process. Indonesia's inclusion was confirmed after President Thomas Bach welcomed the country's readiness to bid at the G20 summit in Bali in November 2022.

The Indonesian observer team includes representatives from the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing, and the country's NOC. The Asian country, which has never bid for the Olympic Games, successfully hosted the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta-Palembang. A potential bid for Jakarta to host the 2032 Games was on the table, but was interrupted when Brisbane was awarded the Games. 

The IOC has indicated that several countries have expressed interest in hosting the 2036 Olympic Games. These nations include India, Germany, with the German government supporting Berlin's bid; Turkey, South Korea, Qatar, Hungary, Spain, with Madrid opening the door to the possibility, and Indonesia, after Mexico withdrew its bid. There is no set timetable for deciding who will host the next Summer Games, but it is unlikely that a host will be chosen until after the IOC presidential election in 2025.
