Russia had traditionally dominated sambo, but its and Belarus' athletes have been banned from competing under their own flag because of the war in Ukraine.

The country's athletes won eight golds on the first day at the Sports Complex Gazprom for Children, and went one better today.

They triumphed in all three women's junior events, open to athletes aged 18 to 20.

Anna Murashkina overcame Romania's Anamaria Vladu in the under-50 kilograms final, Milena Khilova beat Mukhlisakhon Kadirberganova of Uzbekistan in the under-65kg decider and Olesya Tkachenko triumphed at over-80kg against Kazakhstan's Nurila Assankyzy.

Anzor Gomleshko earned gold in the men's junior under-64kg against Mongolia's Turbold Tumurkhuu, but Beka Dzaganishvili of Georgia denied Aznaur Papshuov.

In men's junior combat sambo, Russian neutral Ivan Tiukhlov beat Kazakhstan's Maxat Bakytov at under-71kg, but Sultan Zharylkapbayev of Kazakhstan defeated Artem Radin at under-98kg.

Youth competition covers athletes aged 16 to 18, and Russian neutrals won both available women's golds on day two through Alina Skripacheva against Nino Darchia of Georgia at under-54kg and Daria Kazantseva against Mongolia's Anujin Uran-Ulzii at under-72kg.

Temirlan Beslaneev against Kyrgyzstan's Aslan Karabekov at under-58kg and Rustam Baituev against Georgia's Bezhani Khurtsidze at under-79kg provided a double for Russian neutral athletes in the men's youth events, and Kazakhstan's Sardar Abdissamituly won the over-98kg final against Romeo Nikabadze of Georgia.

The World Youth and Junior Sambo Championships is due to conclude tomorrow.
