Brazil’s Pedro Barros led the men’s quarter-final standings at the World Skateboarding Tour Park World Championships held at Rome in Italy.

Barros’ best performance came on his second run with a score of 84.71, enough for the Tokyo 2020 silver medallist and 2018 world champion to finish top going into tomorrow’s semi-finals at The Spot Skatepark in Ostia.

In second place was Asian Games silver medallist Yuro Nagahara of Japan, who recorded two runs of more than 84 points, including an opening run of 84.43.

The third fastest qualifier was double X Games gold medallist Tom Schaar of the United States with 84.11.

Fourth place went to Sweden’s Hampus Winberg with 83.67, with fifth to American Gavin Bottger on 80.85.

Sixteen skaters have qualified for the semi-finals, with the final qualifier in 16th Danny Leon of Spain with 74.79.

In the women’s quarter-finals, the top qualifier was Japan’s Kokona Hiraki, with the Tokyo 2020 silver medallist and reigning world silver medallist leading the standings with her third run score of 86.12.  

In second place is Brazilian Raicca Ventura with her second run score of 84.32, with third place going to Japan’s Hinano Kusaki, the reigning Asian Games gold medallist, who scored 84.18 with her final run.

Brazil’s Dora Varella finished fourth with 82.62, with fifth going to Lillian Erickson of the United States on 81.28.

The top 16 skaters qualified for the semi-finals, with the final qualifying spot by 0.18 points going to Grace Marhoefer of the United States with a first run score of 77.18.

The men’s and women’s semi-finals are due to take place tomorrow, with the finals set to follow on Sunday (October 8).     

As well as the title of world champion, skaters can also earn ranking points for the Paris 2024 Olympics through the Championships.
