The 17-year-old, who won a silver medal at the ongoing Asian Games in Hangzhou, topped the pile after a superb run scored him 82.00 at The Spot Skatepark in Ostia in the Italian capital.

The 27 qualifiers will be joined in the quarter-finals by pre-seeded skateboarders who earned an automatic spot thanks to their ranking points.

This group includes reigning world champion Jagger Eaton of the US and Brazil's Olympic silver medallist Pedro Barros.

As well as world titles, the event offers ranking points for Paris 2024 Olympic qualification.

Competition is due to continue tomorrow with women's qualifying.

Britain's reigning champion Sky Brown has withdrawn as the 15-year-old has suffered an ankle injury.
