Britain's Olympic bronze medallist Sky Brown and Brazil's Augusto Akio qualified for the World Park Skateboarding Championships finals in pole position in Sharjah.

The 14-year-old Brown put on a dominant display to score 87.08 points and finish more than 2.5 points clear of the rest of the field.

Until the semi-finals, the best score from two 45-second runs has been used to judge the skaters.

For the semi-final and final, a best-of-three, 45 seconds per run format is employed with the addition that if the skater falls, the run automatically ends.

Japan's reigning national champion Kusaki Hinano was second in the semi-final on 84.50 to finish above her compatriot and Tokyo 2020 silver medallist Hiraki Kokona, who followed behind.

Kokona took third with her best score of 81.36 before Olympic champion Yosozumi Sakura, also of Japan, qualified in sixth place.

Three skaters from the United States, led by Olympian Bryce Wettstein, also progressed while Brown's compatriot Lola Tambling snatched the eighth and last spot for the final on her third run.

In the men's event, Akio's 88.76 on the opening run went unmatched for the remainder of the contest.

Finishing just behind the Brazilian were Australia's Olympic champion Keegan Palmer and his countryman Kieran Woolley with 87.56 and 86.50 points respectively.

Tokyo 2020 silver medallist Pedro Barros of Brazil ended the night in fifth while the other qualification places were filled by the United States' Tom Schaar, Jagger Eaton, Tate Carew, and Liam Pace.

The champions of both competitions are due to be crowned in tomorrow's sessions.
