A French Government anti-fraud application is to be translated into English to help visitors to the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The SignalConso app was introduced in 2020 in conjunction with the French Government's Directorate General for Competition Policy, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Control (DGCCRF), part of the Ministry for the Economy, Industry and Digital Affairs.

"SignalConso is a free public service of the DGCCRF that allows consumers to report problems encountered with companies," French Government officials explained.

It is already estimated that the app has been downloaded approximately 110,000 times.

Some ten per cent of reports of fraud and other consumer problems are now made in this way across France, officials claimed.

During the Games, French officials estimate that the technology will be able to assist between 15 and 20 million tourists visiting Paris.

"They will be able to find immediate answers, but also contact links in France to find out who to call for such and such a problem," the Ministry said.

The Government site indicates that the app can be used for problems with purchases, both in person and online but the services also extend to other consumer areas.

These include car repairs, maintenance work on properties, problems over hygiene at restaurants, health, veterinarian services and even spam advertising.

Before its launch, a promotional campaign is set to take place with overseas embassies and at travel hubs such as airports and railway stations.

The special application is set to go online this autumn.

The 2024 Olympic Games are set to open on July 26 in the French capital.
