A daily news programme on the Paris 2024 Olympics - Aux Jeux Citoyens (The People’s Games) - will be broadcast in prime-time access on France 3 from July 24.

The programme, presented by Carole Gaessler and prepared by the editor-in-chief Arnaud Bonnin, will be broadcast from Monday to Friday for 26 minutes, France Télévisions announced.

"We put all our heart, our energy into this project, which is one of the most emblematic," said Stéphane Sitbon-Gomez, the director of France Télévisions programming.

"The stakes of Paris 2024 are exceptional in terms of their importance and scope.

"We want to give it all its superb resonance.

"We went to London to meet our comrades from the BBC to discuss how they treated their Olympics in 2012.

"What better thing than to give a daily show to give importance to the event?”

Three major sections are planned: "The Games Series" which goes behind the scenes of the Games, "History(ies) of the Games" led by Alexandre Boyon, which will be based on the archives of the Olympic Games, and "The Tic Tac of the Games" in the form of a countdown.

Consultants named for the show include Atlanta 1996 200 and 400 metres gold medallist Marie-José Pérec, three-times Olympic handball champion Luc Abalo, Paralympic swimmer Théo Curin, Stéphane Diagana, the 1997 world 400m hurdles champion, London 2012 women’s basketball silver medallist Céline Dumerc, Rio 2016 boxing silver medallist Sarah Ourahmoune and Laure Manaudou, Athens 2004 400m freestyle swimming gold medallist.

Every Friday, the show will welcome a guest, according to Gaessler, "not for promotion but for sharing."

She added: "This programme is a real challenge for me.

"I'm not going to turn into a sports journalist but I'm going to keep this taste for discovering the people behind the athletes.

"What interests me are the emotions that sport provides."
