The Turin 2025 International University Sports Federation (FISU) Winter World University Games' figure skating and short track venue Palavela is set to open up to the public this month.

Every Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday afternoon and Saturday morning from June 26, the public will be allowed to skate for free at the venue.

Skates will also be available to rent for €2 (£1.70/$2.20) in what is the first time that the Palavela has ever opened in the Italian summer.

From July 4, every Tuesday evening will see the "Aperitivo on Ice" event where the public will be able to skate and cool off before seeing performances from professional athletes.

"Torino 2025 opens up to the city and we officially inaugurate our house in a magical setting like that of the Palavela, to involve those who enjoy playing ice sports and those {who} wants to enter the Universiade atmosphere a year and a half in advance, coming to visit our home and discovering our initiatives open to anyone," said the Games' Organising Committee President Alessandro Ciro Sciretti.

"Our goal is for everyone to arrive ready for the Games that will make Torino and Piemonte shine in the eyes of the world."

Last week, the Organising Committee began summer camps with hundreds of children taking part to experience ice skating for the first time.

The Palavela is also due to welcome Italian ice dance world champion and Olympic bronze medallist Maurizio Margaglio as a guest.

Olympic and world champion from Germany Aljona Savchenko is also set to make an appearance at the end of July to perform and offer tips to young skaters.

"It is a bet that we hope to win, because the Palavela has never been open in the summer," said Turin 2025 vice-president Riccardo D'Elicio.

"It is a project in which we believe a lot to raise awareness of Turin and its potential as a university city.

"My wish as well as a goal is that from September there will be many people who will want to take introductory and ice practice courses with our technicians."

Turin 2025 is set to take place from January 13 to 25 of that year.
