Reza Kalhor and Amir Mohammad Bakhshi emerged victorious from all-Iranian finals at the open qualification tournament for the 2022 World Taekwondo Grand Slam Champions Series in Wuxi.

Iran topped the medals table at the event with two golds, five silvers and one bronze, with all the medallists booking places into the World Taekwondo Grand Slam Champions Series Final, due to be held tomorrow and Monday (April 3) in the Chinese capital.

Kalhor overcame Daniel Bozorgishoob to win men’s under-68 kilogram gold as South Korea’s Kang Jeag-won picked up bronze at the Wuxi Taihu International Expo Centre.

There was an Iranian one-two in the men’s under-80kg category as Amir Mohammad Bakhshi got the better of Mehran Barkhordari in the final.

South Korea’s Seo Geon-woo claimed bronze.

Uzbekistan also came away with two gold medals, including one for Svetlana Osipova who captured the women’s over-67kg crown courtesy of her victory over Ziao Shunan of China.

Ziao had to settle for silver and was joined on the podium by fellow Chinese fighter Liu Yaxin who earned bronze.

Uzbekistan’s other gold medal went to Nikita Rafalovich following his success in the men’s over-80kg class.

Rafalovich beat South Korea’s Kang Sangh-yun to secure the title, while Iran’s Abolfazi Abbasi Pouya sealed bronze.

The women’s under-67kg title went to China’s Zhou Zeqi after beating South Korea’s Hong Hyo-rim in the gold-medal bout.

Xing Jiani of China completed the podium with bronze.

Jung Woo-hyeok of South Korea won men’s under-58kg gold, with Mahdi Hajimousaei of Iran claiming silver and Cheng Kai of China bagging bronze.

Adriana Cerezo Iglesias of Spain came out on top against Saeideh Nasiri Darounkola of Iran to clinch the women’s under-49kg crown, while China’s Wang Xiaolu won bronze.

Launa Marton of Hungary claimed gold in the women’s under-57kg category, with Mihad Kiyanichandeh of Iran picking up silver and Gu Wenjing of China taking bronze.

Athletes who finished in the top eight in each weight class will advance to the World Taekwondo Grand Slam Champions Series Final.

The fourth edition of the Grand Slam was originally due to be held in 2022 only to be postponed to this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
