The Federation of International Bandy (FIB) has signed an agreement with the Sports Radar Integrity Service to prevent match-fixing and betting irregularities in matches.

The FIB is to employ the Universal Fraud Detection System to monitor its sports betting and integrity.

The deal was confirmed by FIB general secretary Attila Adamfi in time for the FIB Annual Congress, held in Växjö, Sweden.

It coincided with the men's and women's FIB World Championships which began this week in Aby, a suburb of Växjö.

The agreement will be an important part of the FIB's portfolio as the sport continues its campaign for inclusion at the Winter Olympics.

At the Congress, FIB officials admitted the impact of the war in Ukraine in the post COVID-19 period had accentuated "tough economic times for both the FIB and member federations".

The Technical Committee called for "expressions of interest" in future tournaments by May 15, but noted that interest had already been "positive".

FIB officials said they are preparing for "when the new normal will come and all countries can participate in tournaments again".

Russia, usually a major force in bandy, had been due to host the 2022 World Championships in Syktyvkar before the tournament was cancelled in the wake of the invasion of Ukraine.

The war also prompted a change of leadership in the sport as Norwegian official Stein Pedersen replaced long serving Russian Boris Skrynnik as FIB President last October.

Skrynnik had been FIB President for the preceding 17 years.

The FIB has also discussed gender equity and the status of transgender players.

"Congress noted it as a topic for the continuation and hopefully produce a decision," the official report said.

Seventeen member associations participated in the meetings, including four online.

An extra Congress is set to take place later this year in "a reform and reviewing process".

The FIB World Championships continue until April 2.
