Sweden has been announced as the host of the 2023 Men’s and Women’s Bandy World Championships.

The tournaments will be held in late March and early April in Aby in Vaxjo, which hosted the Women’s World Championship last year.

International bandy took an enforced break due to a combination of the coronavirus pandemic and the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, aided by Belarus.

"The Swedish Bandy Federation does a tremendous job to organise the most important event, especially after some years of inactivity," said FIB President Stein Pedersen.

"We are very grateful for that.

"It is very important for our teams and athletes to be back on the international arena."

The tournaments in Sweden are due to be the first time that World Championships for both men and women will be decided at the same time in the same arena.

Russia are the current holders of the Men’s World Championship, having beaten hosts Sweden in Vanersborg in 2019.

Meanwhile Sweden are the holders of the Women's World Championship, defeating Norway last year in Aby to win the title for a tenth time.

FIB acting general secretary Attila Adamfi added: "Bandy will finally fill the arena again and the years of training and preparation of athletes will conclude in high level games.

"With this historical event we also make a significant step towards gender balance by combining the Championships for women and men for the first time!

"FIB and the Swedish Bandy Federation will work in close cooperation to prepare the event in the best possible way during the unusually short remaining period."

Russia and Belarus are banned from participating in the 2023 men’s and women’s World Championships due to the war in Ukraine, meaning a new winner of the men's title is guaranteed.
