Alisher Alimov will continue as chairman of the Sambo Association of Uzbekistan after being re-elected for a second four-year spell ©FIAS

Alisher Alimov has been re-elected as chairman of the Sambo Association of Uzbekistan.

Alimov was voted unanimously by delegates that attended the at a Ministry of Youth Policy and Sports Conference.

He will continue to hold a post that he was first elected too four year ago.

During his time, the Uzbekistan has found success in the International Sambo Federation (FIAS) World and Asian Sambo Championships, winning several golds, including three at the 2021 world edition that was held in Tashkent, the capital city of the country.

They also finished second place in the medal tally, behind Russia.

At last year's World Championships in Bishkek in Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan dropped to 11th in the medals table after failing to win a gold medal.

Along with the re-election of Alimov, Roman Shakirov, the head coach of the sambo team, was elected as secretary general.

The conference was attended by multiple prominent officials, including the secretary general of the Uzbekistan National Olympic Committee Oybek Kasymov.

This year's World Sambo Championships are due to be in Yerevan in Armenia, from November 10 to 12.
