A recruitment drive for an Olympian mentorship programme of the Olympic Federation of Ireland (OFI) is currently underway.

The initiative is part of the OFI Athletes' Commission strategy for 2022-2024.

Under its athlete welfare pillar, a mentorship programme involving "transfer of knowledge and understanding" from experienced Olympians was outlined.

According to the OFI, this will help the "retention of experience with Olympians" and act as an opportunity to guide young athletes.

Olympians interested in becoming a mentor can apply here.

Those selected will first receive training to become good mentors.

They will then be able to work with mentees, who will be recruited later.

The last date to register interest for the programme is on March 1.

The training for mentors is scheduled to start on March 16.
