Team Ireland has opened applications for volunteers to join its team at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

The volunteers are set to provide Team Ireland staff and athletes with administrative, linguistic and operational support during and in the build-up to the Games.

Paris 2024 is set to mark the 100th anniversary of Team Ireland first competing at an Olympics, which also occurred in Paris, back in 1924.

The deadline for applications for a Team Ireland National Olympic Committee (NOC) Assistant is January 16 2023.

Team Ireland Chef de Mission for Paris 2024 Gavin Noble said: "This is a really unique opportunity for individuals to be at the heart of Team Ireland during what will be a really special Games.

"At the Olympics, the NOC assistants are very much part of the team, and spend the days in the Olympic Village, assisting our staff and team across a range of areas.

"This is ideally suited to individuals who have a good understanding of sport and the athlete needs, who have an element of fluency in French, organised, personable, work well under pressure, and who are interested in exploring an opportunity to work in a fast moving sport environment."

Anyone applying to be an NOC assistant with Team Ireland must be over 18 and be available for a minimum of ten working days.

At the previous Summer Olympics, held in Tokyo, Japan, Ireland won four medals - two golds and two bronzes.

Team Ireland assistants must be able to be part of the Games in the build-up in Dublin, and then during the Games, scheduled to be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11.

A total of 30,000 volunteers are set to be deployed for the Paris 2024 Olympics, with a further 15,000 due to participate at the Paris 2024 Paralympics, scheduled to follow from August 28 to September 8.
