Paralympians Sadegh Bigdeli of Iran and Heidi Peters from Canada have been elected to the World ParaVolley Athletes' Commission.

Bigdeli, a three-time Paralympic gold medallist, will serve on the body as the representative of Asia-Oceania, while Peters will take up the position as a global representative.

Bigdeli beat compatriot Masoumeh Zarei Barouti in an online election.

Barouti was previously the Asia-Oceania representative.

"I am very pleased to be a member of the World ParaVolley Athletes' Commission as a representative of all ParaVolley athletes of ParaVolley Asia-Oceania," Bigdeli said.

"I hope with the cooperation of other members of the commission, my experience can be a good and fruitful activity for the development of sitting volleyball in the world.

"Without a doubt, we will be the voice of all players around the world to lead our excited sport in the top.

"Thank you to all who voted for me at this election."

Peters, who played at Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020, fended off Italy's Federico Blanc, Barouti and Turkey's Samet Yilmaz in the global poll.

"I am very honoured to be elected as the fifth member of World ParaVolley Athletes' Commission," Peters said.

"It means a lot to me that my fellow athletes trust and support me to represent them.

"I am excited to be a voice within our organisation and to help grow the sport of Paravolley."

Canadian Paralympic silver medallist José Rebelo is the outgoing chair of the World ParaVolley Athletes' Commission, with the new panel expected to choose a new leader.
