Mexico conducted a national seminar for sambo coaches and referees earlier this month at the Autonomous Mexican University.

Costa Rica's Luis Borgantes, who is a member of the Referee Commission of the Pan American Sambo Union (UPASA) and has a first International Sambo Federation coaching degree led a group of 20 specialists from three Mexican states.

"The seminar can be divided into several parts," Borgantes said.

"In one of them, together with the participants, we analysed typical refereeing situations on video, in the other we practiced the work of a referee in practice in the gym, in the third we studied the nuances of sport, combat and beach sambo techniques.

"During two days of work, we were able to consider all the main aspects of refereeing and practice sambo techniques both in the standing position and in the stalls."

The event follows on from the series of training sessions that have been held this year under the authority of the Pan American Sambo Union.

A previous seminar was held in Nicaragua while Haiti and Bolivia are due to host similar events later this year.
